Offering for sale: A really nice catalog of Fishing Tackle from ABBEY & IMBRIE of New York City from the 1923. The cover says “Fishing Tackle that’s Fit for Fishing” and is complete. It’s identified on the cover as “Catalog 195 — 1923″. Also according to the cover, the company was established in 1820 and had a New York City address of 97 Chambers St. This publication is 175 pages plus covers and trims at approximately 6 by 9 inches with originally-rounded outer corners. Inside the catalog is loaded with fishing tackle items covering all aspects of fishing accessories from rods and reels to lines, sinkers, tackle boxes and nets. There’s also a big selection of artificial baits and numerous other fishing products. Also, all aspects of fly fishing are well represented in the catalog and nearly everything is illustrated with either detailed line art drawings, steel engravings, or black & white photos. The cover has some mild surface wear and light usage soil with moderate wear at the base of the spine and some back cover separation along the spine fold. There are also two small stickers that were placed on the spine — perhaps for filing purposes — and the last page is a ruled page for notes and a couple of names have been pencilled in there (erasable if you desire). But overall the publication is in excellent shape (especially considering it’s 87 years old). The paper is pliable, not brittle and there are no musty or smoky odors. The inside is spotless with no tears, folds, markings (except as noted) or soil. There are no loose or missing pages and the binding is excellent. All in all a very fine example of an early Abbey & Imbrie fishing tackle catalog that would make a welcomed addition to any collection. PLEASE NOTE: My shipping estimate is based on sending this item via media mail which can sometimes take a while to arrive. If you prefer faster deliver, you can opt to change the shipping method (and related cost) on the auto-fill invoice form when the sale is complete. ALSO: I will be offering a variety of other EARLY Fishing catalogs over the next week or so. I can combine shipping costs if you purchase more than one item.

Welcome to my auction. Up for bid is a John Deere Sales Catalog from about 1929. 1929 is the latest date I can find. This Catalog has 392 pages and is filled with pictures and drawing of anything that John Deere was selling around this time. Early in the book is a picture of the original Plow factory founded by John Deere at Moline, Illinois in 1847. Pictures of the other plants follow. On page 19 are pictures of dealer sign’s and souvenirs that John Deere was offering to the dealers. Pictures and drawings of tractors, plows, chilled plows, harrows, cotton and corn planters, cultivators, corn shellers and potatoe diggers and countless other things. John Deere was even into Ireland Wood Saw Machines. I tried to give you any idea of what pictures are in this catalog with the ones I’ve taken, but that doesn’t even scratch the surface. This is the coolest book I’ve ever gotten in the last 20 years of going to sales. This is a must have for any serious John Deere collector.
The condition of this catalog is good, showing typical wear. The leather cover has a small kink 1 1/2″ down from the top front of the spine and there’s a small indentation where it says John Deere Plow Co. on the front cover. Some pages have wrinkles and there is light yellowing on the outer edges of some pages. Someone also had a small paper clip on the top and it put a 1/4″ tear on (1) page, dirtied (4) pages and indented (25) pages at the paper clip site. There is also a 1/2″ tear on the outer edge of page 21. A salesperson has writing’s in the catalog of people’s names, check marks, x’s and prices by some pictures in pencil, but that just adds more character to the book. The book has a solid tight spine and all pages are well intact. Very nice for a sales catalog that may have been carried around from farm to farm around 1930. Email with any questions. Thanks for looking and happy bidding.

1922 BRISTOL Steel Fishing Rods CATALOG Horton Mfg NICE

1922 BRISTOL Steel Fishing Rods CATALOG Horton Mfg NICE

Current price:

$138

Offering for sale: An extremely nice catalog of Specialty Fishing Tackle from Horton Manufacturing and Bristol Rods of Bristol, Connecticut from 1922. The cover says “Meek and Blue Grass Reels — BRISTOL Steel Fishing Rods — Kingfisher Silk Fishing Lines” and is complete. On the bottom of the cover it says “Made By THE HORTON MFG. CO — Bristol, Conn — U. S. A.” On the very last page along the bottom margin is a key code in very small type that reads “25M-5-22 The Barta Press, Cambridge” which suggests that there were 25 thousand of these catalogs printed in May of 1922.  This publication is 32 pages plus covers and trims at approximately 7-1/2 by 10 inches with a wonderful, full-color illustration on the front of a couple of fishermen in a bark canoe landing a fish — one with pole, one with net. The cover is on a heavier dark blue stock and the inside pages are a high-quality, white polished stock that affords optimum image reproduction. The cover has some faint areas of fading and some mild edge wear but overall the cover is in very nice shape. The artwork (by Phillip R. Goodwin, I believe) is in really nice shape. This piece of art is affixed to the printed and embossed cover. All of the type on the cover is embossed as is the frame around the artwork. The book is bound with a blue cord that’s in fine shape and the binding is solid. The spine has barely a hint of wear. The back cover has printing too and is also light blue on the dark blue stock although it’s not embossed on the back cover. Inside the catalog depicts all of the Bristol rods, reels and lines with excellent images and detailed descriptions (see photos). Most of the products shown are in detailed black and white but the pages of fishing lines have color (see photos). Overall the publication is in excellent shape (especially considering it’s nearly 90 years old). The paper is extremely pliable, not brittle and there are no musty or smoky odors. The inside is spotless with no tears, folds, markings or soil (the cover is slightly oversized to the inside pages which is why they are in such perfect shape and why the cover edges are slightly frayed in areas). There are no loose or missing pages and the binding is excellent. All in all a fabulous example of an early BRISTOL Steel Rod fishing catalog that would make a prized addition to any collection. PLEASE NOTE: My shipping estimate is based on sending this item via media mail which can sometimes take a while to arrive. If you prefer faster deliver, you can opt to change the shipping method (and related cost) on the auto-fill invoice form when the sale is complete. ALSO: This is the last of the fishing catalogs I’m currently offering (I have a couple more vintage lures I’ll list next week). I can combine / shave shipping costs if you purchase more than one item.

EARLY (1913 ?) Heddon Dowagiac Bait Casting Catalog

11 March 2010
EARLY (1913 ?) Heddon Dowagiac Bait Casting Catalog

Buy Now

Current price:

$227

Offering for sale: A really nice EARLY catalog of BAIT CASTING EQUIPMENT from James Heddon’s Sons of Dowagiac, Michigan that I believe is from pre-1920. The cover has a wonderful leaping bass illustration with a Heddon lure in its mouth that was done by R. Tyrell and the only wording on the cover reads “Heddon – Dowagiac Bait Casting Equipment”. On the title page it lists the specific catalog contents as “Rods — Reels — Lines and Baits”. Also on the title page is a nice portrait of Jim Heddon and it is boldly identified as “CATALOG No. 19″. Now, there is no date anywhere on the catalog but the company was established in 1894 and if they put out one catalog each year — and this is catalog number 19 — then it follows that this is from 1913 (unless they didn’t start putting them out the first year).  At any rate, this is one of the earlier Heddon catalogs.  It was printed in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This publication is 16 pages plus covers and trims at approximately 9 by 12 inches. Inside the catalog is two-color with very detailed black and white depictions of the products. The center spread, however shows the lures (10 different Dowagiac Minnow lures, 5 per page) in full color. The cover has some mild surface wear and light usage soil with some very modest crinkling along the bottom 3 inches of the spine. It also appears that this may have received some sun exposure while another item was lying on it. As you can see in the cover photos, the margins of the front cover has some color weakness. But overall the publication is in excellent shape (especially considering it’s probably more than 90 years old). ***** BONUS ***** This lot also includes three loose Heddon – Dowagiac paper items related to the catalog. One is an 8-1/2 by 11 catalog sheet that was printed as an insert for the catalog featuring “The New WILDER-DILG LURE” The flyer shows 12 lures all named for fishing notables including Irvin Cobb and Zane Grey. This item is in near-mint condition. The second paper item is a smaller flyer that’s printedd in black and white on both sides and measures approximately 5-3/4 by 9-1/2 inches touting “The New Heddon Game Fisher Minnow” and “Heddon’s New Single Hook Minnow” both on one side of the flyer while the flip side features “Heddon’s New Auto-spooler Reel.” This item is relatively clean on one both sides (one original printing blemish on the Reel side) and has a small corner bend on one corner. Other than that, it’s also nearly mint. The last separate item is a James Heddon;s Sons order blank — unused which has a promo on the flip side printing in two color that features “The New Wilder-Dilg Lure” with complete list of construction / color variations. This measures about 5-1/2 by 7 inches and is in like-new condition. Oveall the catalog and all three loose items are in clean shape and magnificent condition (with catalog blemishes as noted). The paper on everything is pliable, not brittle and there are no musty or smoky odors. The inside of the catalog is spotless with no tears, folds, markings or soil. There are no loose or missing pages and the binding is excellent. All in all a very fine example of an early HEDDON – DOWAGIAC fishing equipment catalog and peripheral literature that would make a welcomed addition to any collection. You seldom see Heddon catalogs of this vintage in such good condition.PLEASE NOTE: My shipping estimate is based on sending this item via media mail which can sometimes take a while to arrive.

Offering for sale: A very handsome vintage fishing catalog of Fishing Tackle from James Heddon’s Sons of Dowagiac, Michigan from 1926. The cover has a wonderful leaping bass illustration with a Heddon lure in its mouth that was done by R. Tyrell (this same art appears on an earlier Heddon catalog I’m currently offering) and the wording: ”Heddon  – Genuine Dowagiac — Fishing Tackle”. The cover also has an inset of a Minnow package end view with the words “The Box with the Red Edge” below the box. On the first page it boldly identifies this issue as “Heddon Fishing Tackle — 1926″.  This publication is 24 page with self cover and trims at approximately 8 by 11 inches. Inside the catalog has numerous detailed black and white depictions of the products as well as a number of them in full color. The center spread features a spread that shows “The Most Important Species of Fresh Water Game Fish” in full color (see photo). The back cover and inside front cover have photos of men with big fish (see photos). Throughout there is a vast array of products shown in fine detail. The cover has some moderate surface wear and light usage soil with some fold wear all along the spine. But all-in-all the publication is in excellent shape (you should look so good at 84 years old). Overall the catalog is in clean shape and magnificent condition. The paper is pliable, not brittle and there are no musty or smoky odors. The inside of the catalog is spotless with no tears, folds, markings or soil. There are no loose or missing pages and the binding is solid.
