This auction is for a massive panel of Damien Hirst’s rare 2004 wallcovering created for the “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” exhibition at the Tate Britain. The panel depicts a range of butterflies in a vibrant kaleidoscopic formation. A limited edition of 500 rolls of this paper were made. Many of the rolls were used in the exhibition (see picture 3) and therefore destroyed (pasted onto the wall of the gallery). A number of the rolls are also believed to have perished in the Momart warehouse fire. Surviving panels are therefore increasingly rare. This large artwork is approx 105cm x 105cm, comprises four full repeats of the pattern, and looks absolutely stunning framed or boarded as in the pictures. The piece for sale is sold unframed and is in mint condition. The piece will be supplied on two identical sheets containing two panels on each sheet – your framer will match these perfectly when framing / boarding.
