This unusual
little set has a pair of stork

use sharpening. The seam ripper is in excellent working condition with
no dents or other
damage. The 10 panel thimble is unmarked but tests sterling silver. It
has an abstract design on every other panel and diamond knurling. It
has some needle holes around the sides at the very top, but is in

(EP). One like this is shown on p. 40 of Gay Ann Rogers’ book American Silver Thimbles.

Antique RAYMOND 1861 CAST IRON Hand Crank SEWING MACHINE
This is a wonderful antique sewing machine made by Charles Raymond, probably at his Guelph, Ontario manufacturing facility. Raymond was a Vermont native who moved to Canada in 1861 to avoid American patent law. The machine is made of cast iron and appears to be in very good working condition. Aesthetically, most of the paint is intact as is the floral decoration on the bed – there is some fading/wear or loss to decoration on the edges but this is quite minimal given the age of this machine. I think that this is a chainstitch machine, but not being a sewer, I will leave this to the collectors to determine from the pictures. The plate is stamped “Patd July 30, 1861″ which refers to Raymond’s last American patent for an improved sub-platform looper. The machine measures 7 ¾” in height and weighs 6 lbs and 14 oz. I would think that this is a rather difficult to find machine in this condition. I’ve taken a lot of close-up photos, but if you have any questions, please e-mail me…excellent antique cast iron sewing machine….Please click on any photo in order to enlarge……reasonable reserve….and please be sure to view my other auctions for more interesting vintage and antique items, all collected from a number of good quality local estates….
