GORGEOUS ANTIQUE FRENCH CHATEAU TAPESTRY CURTAINS c1900

This is a superb pair of antique French chateau tapestry curtains that date from the early 1900s.
The colours are softly muted in Aubusson shades making them very stylish and easy on the eye.
A substantial tight weave of wool and linen makes them perfect to keep out the winter draughts.
Each curtain has a very pale Aubusson green background that carries the design in plae mauves and pink with green and ochre. There is a self coloured weave of leaves and boughs that give a chain stitch embroidery appearance adding depth to the scene.
Featuring climbing vines with flower blooms and berries each curtain has a border on each long sode and along the bottom edges of flower blooms and foliage. The borders would allow each curtain to be used as a wall hanging if required as they are framed scenes.
The condition is amazing for their age and the old brass curtain rings are still sewn in place along the top edge making them ready tpo hang.
Each curtain measures:
Length 9 feet 2″ (280cms)
Width 4 feet (122cms)
There are no patches of wear or fading and I cam find just one tiny hole at the top of one curtain where it may have been attached to a rail.
Stunning genuine period drapes for any chateau chic interior.
The vignettes features two men on horseback amongst flower filled urns and classical arches.
Each curtain has a pleated top edge and measures:
Length 7 feet 6″ (229cms
Width at bottom edge 4 feet (122cms)
Width at pleated top edge 2 feet 5″ (74cms)
There are no linings but the textile is thick enough for them not to be a requirement. There is curtain tape along each pleated top so with the addition of hooks they are ready to hang.
